Sony has pulled PS3 firmware update 4.45 after it was found to be causing errors in what the platform holder termed a "small number" of consoles. In a statement, Sony said that it’ll inform users once the problems have been rectified and the update is made available again.
A Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson said: "We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems. We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."
According to multiple users, downloading PS3 firmware update 4.45 left their consoles stuck without an XMB interface. Restarting the system and other recovery attempts have so far failed to resolve the problem. The firmware update was designed to improve system stability and add options for in-game trophy notifications.
